This was a great show.

The tribute to Sherwood Ross melded with discussions of current events and the importance of history… We had:
  • Sherwood Ross (recording) singing the Pastrami song and describing the March Against Fear and the shooting of James Meredith
  • Sheena Powell Szuri, staying with me for the whole show, contributing in every segment, reminiscing about Sherwood, reading her own and Sherwood’s poetry, and providing her ideas and insight
  • Philip Farruggio talking about Charlottesville and modern white supremacists, discussing civil rights and history with Sheena and me
  • Michael Annis discussing the contrast between our show and the one before it, then launching into a spirited discussion with Sheena on beat poets and poetry
  • Frank Cordaro, in a recorded conversation with me, talking about the changes we’ve seen in our lifetimes, the not-so-great impact of our baby boomer generation on the world, and whether the major culprit in the destruction of our planet is the oil industry
